| The Original Van! In 1951, Volkswagon had a bright idea to build a vehicle that could carry large groups of people, the "People's Car-Van." This vehicle also could be outfitted with a camping option. Some variations were adapted for delivery.
I have seen the early vans sell for as much as $35,000 at auction, and I have seen people ask for $100,000 for a 23 Window Van.
This 1990 Volkswagon Vanagon, today, is sought after for its unique look, practical 7 passenger seating, and still gets almost 30 MPG. This Vanagon is just perfect for a family vehicle, beach van, dog carrier or for business advertising. This is a very entry level classic (at this price) that has had only one repaint on a Lazar striate, rust free body, painted in the original color, which I thought was called Flash Silver, but I'm told it's called Nutria Beige. Anyway, it is a beautiful silver.
A recent major service has been completed, including new tires. It has the 2.1L water cooled Boxster motor, with the automatic transmission, cold air conditioning, and JVC Stereo CD. This Vanagon has been very well cared for over the last 19 years, driven only 5500 miles per year, average, or so says the odometer. But it is 20 years old! She looks like she has 30K miles on her! She has spent the later years going through a pampered restoration, to be driven as a weekender, going Sailboarding at the beach, and taken to local car shows. This Vanagon, in this condition, at this price is hard to find and it's going to get even harder.
